A Gen-X dad on TikTok took a new-aged solution to disciplining his 4-year-old son in a now-viral video. Here's what took place — and the way people reacted.
Parenting isn’t for the faint of center, and that is especially true in the digital age. Gone are the times when spankings were a factor. Now, gentle parenting is the wave, regardless that, now not everybody has been so fast to hop on board.

Although TikTok person Derek Longstreth (aka @hamburgerjones23) considers himself a “Gen-X dad,” he took a new-aged technique to disciplining his 4-year-old son in a now-viral video on TikTok.
Instead of chastising his son with a belt, he made the child carry seven one-gallon water jugs throughout their lawn.

This dad made his son carry water jugs across the garden as punishment: “Spankings are out of the question …”
In a video posted in July 2023, Derek gave viewers a glimpse at his parenting taste. According to the TikToker, his son hit his mother and needed to face the consequences. Although his first intuition used to be to spank his son, he tried the water jug means as an alternative.
“We're no longer allowed to spank in the state of Wisconsin as a result of there [are] some [liberals] saying there [are] better tactics,” he mentioned in the clip, which has more than one million perspectives as of this writing.
“I know simply an a-- whoopin' is what it needs however like I said, I will't do it not more. [If] you spank your child, you are going to pass to prison,” he went on.

As the 4-year-old struggled to make it backward and forward around the yard more than a dozen instances, his dad showed him a bit difficult love: “I really like you, son. But we don't hit women on this family, sorry.”

Throughout the video, Derek shared more heartwarming affirmations with his son till he were given to the end line. That said, Derek added: “I could not even consider what it would be like if I got away with hitting my mom,” Derek mentioned. “I will just feel the a-- whooping I might have got serious about it.”

He asked for TikTok customers to leave “positive complaint” in the feedback — preferably no longer from Negative Nancys. “If you might have negative comments you’re more than likely the explanation I can't spank my kid,” Derek went on.
After his son was done with his punishment, Derek congratulated the 4-year-old and reminded him that he needed to do it for his personal good.
“You carried seven gallons of water 51 feet — 102 toes overall,” he gushed.

“I don't even know if that's correct math right here, guys. It’s just a rough estimate, I'm almost certainly way off. But have a look at that," Derek went on.
Since the video made its rounds on social media, many have taken to the comments to commend the dad on his method of parenting.

“I think it’s quite an age-appropriate consequence for his actions,” a commenter named @squarebobspongepantss wrote. “Also, the encouragement is what I think would actually make it register with him in a positive way as opposed to fear-based.”
