The Today Show made its debut on Jan. 14, 1952 and at the beginning aired as a two-hour program within the morning. Hosted via Dave Garroway, the display combined nationwide news with way of life options and mild information — including a mascot in the type of a chimpanzee named J. Fred Muggs.
In 1987, the display expanded to come with Sundays and in 1992, Today launched its Saturday time slot.
